My last day

Tomorrow i fly back to England in the morning. I am definitely looking forward to returning home, but in some ways im going to miss being an 'independant woman.' :p

I arrived back in Rome yesterday after spending 6 nights in various places on the Amalf coast. It was truely beautiful, but it rained for most of my time there!! I day-tripped to Pompei on one of the rainy days. It was fascinating and i was surprised to see that so much was still intact. The house of Venus still had painting on the wall. It was, however, described by a girl i met as a 'dead-zone,' which made things a bit strange.
Mostly, for that part of the trip, i wanted to relax on the beach and soak up the sun. Due to the weather i only managed to spend two days doint that. There is still no evidence of a tan though....

My last blog....

My day in Pisa and Lucca

sunny 26 °C

I am hopeless at keeping this blog but heres what ive been up to...

I travelled to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower, which i must say was not as impressive as i thought it would be. That is not to say i didnt enjoy it tho.... When i first arrived there it was slightly worrying as i could not see any tourists about, but wandering up to where the tower and duomo are, i could see that that was where all the tourists had flocked to.

Lucca on the other hand was a delight. Many of the streets are lined with trees, and cobble stoned. I just felt really safe there wandering about getting lost.

Siena was lovely also, but i forgot my camera so no pics of that! I just spent an afternoon there enjoying the sights; the duomo was gothic-esque and the main piazza was the place to see and be seen!!

I went to the Uffizi and the accademia. David was magnificent, and quite hunky!! Uffizi was a bit of a let down, all religious painting and terribly poor lighting.

Am now in Rome. It is so busy here, i definitely preferred florence but there are plenty of good sights. I have been to the Roman forum today, the colusseum, the trevi fountain and the spanish steps. Tomorrow i will visit the vatican, which is on the doorstep of my hostel.

hmm, hostel in Rome is not so nice, shower is a bit unclean and is very small. Also i was sharing a room full of couples so i felt like a bit of a gooseberry!

On the 28th i an off to Salerno and then on to the amalfi coast

Florence

Tues 19th May

I am a first-time blogger so excuse me if this is a bit more like a diary.

My flight all went smoothly yesterday and i arrived in Pisa roughly on time. I then took a train from the airport to pisa and then changed to florence after a little wait. There were plenty of english people - from my flight - getting the train which made things a bit easier. The train journey was long, but the sights were wonderful; everywhere i looked i saw beauty.
I arrived in Florence around half five and finally found my hostel after getting a little lost on the way... It was utterly terrifying, but i managed to get hold of a detailed map today.

Florence, to begin with, was daunting. I spenty much of this morning wandering around, not really knowing where i was. In a matter of minutes, i stubbled upon the river Arno, which i thought i was miles from! I walked along the river towards ponte vecchio taking pictures of the sights. I have also visited Santa Croce - a church, and the Duomo. Both were incredible, their architechure is out of this world, i have never seen anything like it. After that, i stopped to eat lunch in the Piazza delle independenze, then wandered the streets some more.

Tomorrow i plan to explore the other side of the river...
